DownSyndrom CZ - Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Down Syndrome (Prague, Czech Republic)
Who we are It was registered as a civic association in 1996. It follows up to activities of a group of parents formed in 1993 under the supervision of Ms. Miloslava Stará, at that time director of a Special Kindergarten and Special Education Center in Prague 8. Members of our civic association are not only families with their child with DS, but also specialists and any interested people from all over the Czech Republic.
What we do Within our association we organize different support activities for children with DS and their families. There are programs like early care, rehabilitation, stimulation of psycho-motor development, special therapies, consultations included crisis intervention, support of integration of children to mainstream kindergarten and primary school, weekend meetings with a specialized programme, holiday reconditioning camps in the nature (for entire families), issuing of our own bulletin (PLUS 21), translations of specialized literature into Czech and cooperation with associations and specialists from other countries.
